Researchers today described striking new proof that green, or unroasted, espresso beans can make a considerable decline in weight in a relatively short period of time.
In the analysis Joe Vinson’s group explained how a group of overweight or obese people who used several milligrams of ground green coffee beans daily lost about 10% of their weight.
"Based on our results, getting numerous tablets of green coffee extract per day - while consuming a low-fat, healthy diet and exercising regularly - seems to be a safe, effective, inexpensive solution to eliminate weight," said Vinson, who’s with the University of Scranton.
The analysis involved 16 overweight or obese people aged 22-26 years who got capsules of the extract or capsules containing a placebo, an inactive powder, for a total of 22 weeks. The experimenters alternated between a low dose and a greater dose of the extract. The reduced dose contains 700mg of the coffee extract, and the large dose was 1,050mg. It had been a so-called “crossover” study where people moved through the placebo and the two doses, each for six weeks. Such studies have each of the people participating in the experiment serve as his / her own “control,” improving the probability of getting an exact result.
All the participants were monitored in regards to their general diet (calories, food consumed, etc.) and exercise within the study period. Fats, carbs, and “their calories and protein intake did not change during the study, nor did their exercise program change,” Vinson said.
Individuals lost an average of 7 pounds during the 22 months of the analysis. It involved on average 16 per cent decrease in body fat. Vinson observed that fat loss could have been notably faster, except that participants received the placebo and the lower amount of green coffee extract for area of the study period.
